Special Announcement: Interim Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Conference Superintendent

Dear siblings in Christ,
May grace and peace from Christ be with you. I recently shared with you that Rev. Judy Walker, conference superintendent, will retire from pastoral ministry in the UMC on December 31, 2024. Today, it is my joy to announce that Rev. Troy Howell will serve as interim Superintendent for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre district from January 1, 2025, to June 30, 2025.

Rev. Howell is a retired elder with more than 30 years of experience in the Susquehanna Conference, including local churches, camping ministry, and as superintendent of the Williamsport District. Since entering retired status, Rev. Howell has worked as a spiritual care coordinator in Hospice and a continuing care community, as an Assisting Elder in the State College District, and as a mentor/coach to pastors.

During this interim period, Rev. Howell will shepherd clergy and congregations in the district and collaborate with the cabinet in appointment-making.

Please continue to pray for Rev. Walker, Rev. Howell, and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre district during this transition.

As we continue moving forward, may joy and hope continue strengthening us as we seek to live the gospel, embody God’s love with our neighbors, and build the beloved community of the Risen Christ.

Together in mission,

Bishop Héctor A. Burgos Núñez
