Archimedes
and Eureka (literally, I found it!)
Epiphany
: literally, “appearance” or “appearing”
Like the story of Archimedes, a
revolutionary insight

Not
just about the cuteness – camels, gold, frankincense
Need
for some suspicion/care
      Imperial hope?
“Suck the milk of nations” (60.16)
“The nation and kingdom that will not
serve you shall perish” (12)
      Turn-about is fair play
from exiled and oppressed to power
Clear
judgment upon those who oppressed Israel
Israel’s
double portion after an excessive judgment, 61.7
Pattern
for Revelation’s vision, new heavens/new earth, 65.17
Isaiah
66:18-21
 I am coming to gather
all nations and tongues; and they shall come and shall see my glory,  19 and I will set a sign among
them. From them I will send survivors to the nations, … to the coastlands far
away that have not heard of my fame or seen my glory; and they shall declare my
glory among the nations.  20
They shall bring all your kindred from all the nations as an offering to the
LORD, on horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and on mules, and on
dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says the LORD….  21 And I will also take some of
them as priests and as Levites, says the LORD.
Not an imperial hope but a GLOBAL HOPE
“Nations shall come to your light”,
60.3
            Promise to Abram: Gn 12.3
in you all the families of the
earth shall be blessed
Global
Hope is tied to extravagant generosity:
Isaiah
60:5
 the abundance of the
sea shall be brought to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to you

Hope is tied to the sending of God’s people:
Exile
– a painful sending
Second
sending of survivors, the remnant (66.18-21)
