“Pilgrims, Not Settlers”: August 17 Faith Challenges:

1. Step Out in Faith This Week

Scripture: “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to set out for a place that he was to receive as an inheritance; and he set out, not knowing where he was going.”Hebrews 11:8

Take time to pray and reflect on where you might be “settling” in your spiritual life — maybe avoiding change, resisting a prompting from God, or staying in a comfort zone because it feels safe. Ask God to reveal one specific area where He’s inviting you to take a step forward. Then commit to one tangible action this week: it could be starting a conversation you’ve been avoiding, volunteering for a ministry that stretches you, or simply saying “yes” to a new opportunity. Remember, you don’t need to see the whole map — just the next step.

2. Encourage a Fellow Pilgrim

Scripture: “Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.”Psalm 84:5

Think of someone you know who is walking through change — a new job, a move, a loss, a fresh calling, or even a crisis. Reach out intentionally this week, whether with a phone call, a handwritten note, or a cup of coffee. Ask them how you can pray for them, and if they’re open, pray right then and there. Share a verse from Psalm 84 or Hebrews 11 as a reminder that God is their strength and their guide. Your encouragement might be the sign they need to keep walking by faith.
