Elijah prays and acts on things
that he hears, things he sees – that no one else hears or sees. It is what
distinguishes the “prayer of faith” and what ushers in the gift of the Spirit.
Future things:

with confidence

with expectation

2 Timothy 1:7  God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but
rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.

Elijah’s “Prayer offered in faith” (James 5) is a prayer that ACTS on future
things, human things, small things.
Gift of the Spirit
      Not
an explicit connection, but a resonance
      Rain
as a metaphor in the prophets for the Spirit
Joel 2:23  O children of Zion, be glad and rejoice in the
LORD your God; for he has given the early rain for your vindication, he has
poured down for you abundant rain, the early and the later rain, as before.
Joel 2:26  You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and
praise the name of the LORD your God
Joel 2:28-29  Then afterward I will pour out my spirit on
all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall
dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.  29 Even on the male and female
slaves, in those days, I will pour out my spirit.

      Our

Psalm 104:30  When you send forth your spirit, they are
created; and you renew the face of the ground.
