Fullness
of time
Both a reference to stepping out of
eternity, filling time
And to a pregnant moment in history, full
of potential
“God’s
time” – Kairos, kronos
Special times and seasons, pregnant with
possibility
            Sabbath as God’ time
            Solstice, equinox
            Christmas, Easter
            New year’s
                  Resolutions – spiritual
practices
Goodbye 2017, glad to see you
go

Born
of a woman, born under the law
What it is to be human (born of woman) is
to be “under law”
Our hearts thrill at rules, policies, and
performance evaluations!
They are not bad, in themselves
            Just entirely unsatisfying
      Respond with obsession
            Compliance or Defiance
            Compare with others:
                  Are the rules applied equally?
                  Are they properly followed,
the way I do?
      Respond with dread
            Keep something in the closet
Getting
pulled over for a traffic violation
Grandma Irma, “I was just keeping up with
the traffic”
      “Because of your record”
From
my personal reading:
Isaiah
57:12
 I will concede your
righteousness and your works, but they will not help you.
Fullness
of time

Hebrews
4:7
 he sets a certain
day– “today”– saying through David much later, in the words already
quoted, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”
